Time Series (02)
A time to help and a time to watch
Have you ever being concerned about a situation but you were in no capacity to help?
I've been at the scene of accidents where people think of what to do and for me, my thoughts were just about how I could possibly help the accident victims before the arrival of an ambulance or a professional that can help.
Sometimes it's someone experiencing a seizure, sometimes it's fainting. But usually I want to help.
I wasn't even a nursing student then but I've always wanted to help, but I couldn't.
So rather than feign concern, I might just pretend to be uninterested in the situation till someone with more experience came into the scene to help.
As of now, I still am not a pro at this but I'm way better than I used to be and I know more now.
I was almost asleep days ago and one of my neighbors was in pains. I heard and came out of my room to check what was going on. She explained that she had been experiencing pain in her abdomen for a while. She was with a friend and so I decided to ask her a few questions to know what was going on. What she ate, if it started after the food or before, if she was allergic to anything, etc.
It was at that point that I realized that things had changed. Before, I wouldn’t even dare to come out let alone ask questions.
The difference was a change in knowledge level. There was a time to watch and learn but if we keep learning and gaining mastery, there will be a time to help and help correctly.
This week, I'm challenging myself to learn more so I can help more and correctly.
I leave you with a quote from Graeme Rodaughan
“Humility will allow you to master what you need to learn, and to be fully present when the moment comes to use what you have mastered.”
The aim of learning is to put to practice.
This week, we do!
Till next time,
Keep getting better at your craft.
